Secretary Whitman Hanson / Thursday, October 6, 2022 / Categories: Leagues, Program Spring Travel Soccer Info for Grade 3 and Above Registration for Tryouts / Spring All players wishing to play Spring Travel Soccer MUST register (and pay the Spring registration fee of $85) BEFORE their scheduled tryout Registration Link: https://reg.sportspilot.com/105884 Note - Failure to register before their scheduled tryout may result in the player not being placed on a Spring team Tryout Dates Boys Grade 3-4 - Sat Oct 22nd @ WMS Jaxon Field (10.00am - 11.30am) Boys Grade 5-6 - Sat Oct 15th @ WMS Jaxon Field (4.00pm - 5.15pm) Boys Grade 7-8 - Sat Oct 22nd @ WMS Front Field (8.30am - 9.30am) Girls Grade 3-4 - Sat Oct 22nd @ WMS Jaxon Field (3.00pm - 4.15pm) Girls Grade 5-6 - Sun Oct 16th @ WMS Back Field (9.00am - 10.15am) Girls Grade 7-8 - Sat Oct 22nd @ WMS Jaxon Field (8.30am - 9.30am) Players Unable to Make Their Tryout If a player is unable to attend the scheduled tryout, they MUST notify the appropriate Director BEFORE their scheduled tryout Players must also register in advance of the scheduled tryout Note - Failure to notify the appropriate Director may result in the player not being placed on a Spring team Boys Director - Meghan Fennessy - boysdirector@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org Girls Director - Erin Robins - girlsdirector@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org Spring Coaches Anyone interested in coaching Spring travel soccer should submit a letter of intent and an accompanying coaching resume to Colin Burns, the Director of Coaching and Instruction (doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org) The WHYS Coach Selection Committee (consisting of the Girls Director, Boys Director, and Director of Coaching and Instruction) will review applications to determine the appropriate coach for each team, which will then be submitted to the WHYS Board for their approval Note - coach selection will take place after team rosters have been determined Please reach out to Colin Burns, the Director of Coaching and Instruction (doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org), if you have any questions on the Coach Selection process Overview of Team Selection Process Teams play against teams from other towns in the South Shore The goal is to place players on travel teams at the appropriate skill level There are multiple divisions at each age group so stronger teams are typically matched up against other strong teams, weaker teams with other weak teams, etc. Team rosters are prepared based on feedback from numerous sources including: Player evaluations from the tryouts (from both independent evaluators and coach evaluators) Player evaluations from recent seasons Feedback from coaches, directors, etc. The Girls Director, Boys Director, and Director of Coaching and Instruction determine final team rosters, which are then submitted to the WHYS Board for approval We attempt to place each player on a Spring roster Any player who is not placed on a Spring roster will be refunded their Spring registration fee Please reach out to Colin Burns, the Director of Coaching and Instruction (doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org), if you have any questions on the Team Selection process Info for Parents Unfamiliar with Spring Travel Soccer Games are typically on Saturdays although some teams (especially teams in lower Divisions in younger age groups) may play on Sundays Players are required to wear official WHYS uniforms, which cost ~$66 Players returning from last season can wear the same uniform as last season Unlike our Fall program where teams have a broad range of skill levels, our Spring teams are geared towards making teams with players of similar skill level who play against other teams of similar skill level Many kids, especially younger kids, can be hesitant about “trying out” due to fear of not making a team Our tryouts are more of an ID Clinic so we can determine the appropriate skill level for each player and try to match them up to an appropriate team We typically have multiple teams at each age group Previous Article New Front Field Next Article Resendes Summer Soccer Camp Print 1127 Rate this article: 3.7 Please login or register to post comments.
